- When you use a credit card to order on-line via SWREG from this page you will immediately receive an email containing either the keycode or the download link as appropriate.
- Prices quoted above are US dollars and do not include European VAT, which will be added to orders from Europe.
- The DESIGN of MS Access MDE files cannot be edited, MDB files are fully customisable.
- Access Run-Time files are sent on a CD by airmail. The cost of postage to anywhere in the world is included in the price.
The difference between the MDE and MDB versions is as follows;
- with the MDE you cannot change the design of the database at all. You can't add new fields, you can't change the layout of a form (data entry screen) or a report (such as an invoice). You can use the database for as long as you like and it will look and behave exactly like the evaluation version you can download from the website - you just can't modify it at all.
- with the MDB version you can make any changes that you like. New fields, new data types, new screens / reports, modified screens / reports etc
With both versions the following points apply;
- The database is hosted on a single computer and can be accessed by multiple computers on a LAN.
- We do strongly recommend splitting the database, so that the data (or back end) is on the central host computer and the client (or front end) is on each individual computer. In this scenario the user opens a copy of the front end / client database on their local machine, and this then links itself to the data / back end on the central host / server.
Access Run Time files
-
To run DataHouse you do need to have MS Access on each computer that will access the datasbase. You don't necessarily need a full version of access though. There is a slimmed down version that developers such as ourselves are permitted to distribute with our software. This is called a run-time version of Access. With the run time version you can't design a new database or make any changes to an existing database, but you can operate an existing database. (A bit like the difference between MDE & MDB files. With the run time version of Access, all databases are like MDE files). We can provide a copy of the run time installation files which can be installed on as many computers as you like, for the cost of the media and postage.
